Area roundup: Nienhaus, Thompson, place 1st at Big South Conference Tournament

NUA takes 2nd at Big South tourney
JACKSON – Winsten Nienhaus placed first at 145 and Evan Thompson placed first at 285 for New Ulm Area at the Big South Conference Wrestling Tournament at Jackson County Central.
Marshall took first overall with 236.5 points, while NUA took second with 158 and St. Peter took third with 154 out of 12 teams.
Nienhaus won his first-place title by fall over St. Peter’s Deontre Torres in 3:24, while Thompson placed first by fall over St. James Area’s Willie Curry in 1:16.
Elijah Rieser placed third for the Eagles at 127. Placing fourth for NUA were Kane Johnson (114), Alex Portner (121) and Ethan Lieb (215), while Braxton Kiecker (133), Wyatt Pollard (160) and Noah Engle (172) placed fifth. Regan Johnson (107) and Lane Ruch (152) placed sixth for NUA.
