Linus Deibele

Linus “Doc” Stanley Deibele, age 96 of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota died on May 17, 2024, at his home in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Pastor Tim Berg. Interment will be at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Military Honors will be provided by Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Linus “Doc” Stanley Deibele, the son of Joseph and Vera (Strolke) Deibele, was born on February 9, 1928, in New Ulm, Minnesota. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Sleepy Eye. On February 20, 1946, Linus served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. On September 20, 1954, Linus married the love of his life, Marilyn Schueler. They were blessed with five children. In 1964, they built their home in the country where they raised their family. They took great pride in their home and yard, welcoming family and friends alike.

Linus worked for Del Monte in Sleepy Eye, retiring after 41 years. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. He enjoyed gardening, camping, and fishing. Going out to eat was a favorite as well, especially going to Carl’s Corner in Essig. He was a proud member of the Navy Seabees.

Linus is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marilyn Deibele of Sleepy Eye; children, Connie (Lowell) Helget of Springfield, Jayne (Brian) Borth of Sleepy Eye, Tom (Lori) Deibele of Sleepy Eye, and Jim (Joni) Deibele of Springfield; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph; grandson, Joshua; and siblings, Virginia, Virgil, and Patsy.
