March 30th: KCs Pancake breakfast to benefit Hoffman family
The Sleepy Eye Knights of Columbus will be having a Pancake breakfast to benefit the family of Melvin (Mel) Hoffman of Sleepy Eye on March 30. In October of 2024
Hoffman got sick and went to the doctor for a cough and possibly pneumonia. After running multiple tests, he found out he has a heart condition referred to as a Bicuspid Aortic Valve. A birth condition he was born with but not aware he had. This condition is where the Aortic Valve has two flaps instead of three, like a normal heart should have. He was referred to Abbott where they discovered that because of the condition his heart is in, he will need to have open heart surgery.
They will need to place a sleeve and replace the valve. Following surgery, Hoffman will need to spend multiple days in the hospital. If he isn’t strong enough to return home, he may need to go to a rehabilitation center until he is strong enough.
“This discovery has had him make multiple trips to doctor appointments with increasing medical bills and to take time off of work,” said Ashley Hoffman. “He just wants to get back to feeling like himself and to his day-to-day enjoyments.”
