Jason Seidl, who has been involved in hockey in New Ulm for the past 28 years, has been selected to receive the Tom Macho Award.
Seidl will be presented the award between the first and second periods of the New Ulm-Marshall boys varsity hockey game on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the New Um Civic Center as part of Hockey Day New Ulm.
His teams were always highly competitive and successful, winning multiple district titles. He spent many of his years as a non-parent coach.
Seidl also served off the ice as a board member for the New Ulm Hockey Association from 1999-2003. In his time on the board, he developed the Learn to Skate program, wrote the winning bid to host the 2005 Bantam A State Tournament and was involved in Minnesota Hockey as a representative at both district and state levels as well as with the Minnesota Girls Hockey Association.
Seidl continues his involvement with hockey in New Ulm as a volunteer assistant coach with the New Ulm High School girls hockey team. He served as the varsity coach from 2004-08, winning multiple conference titles and trips to sectional finals.
He was awarded the 2007 Section 3A 3M Excellence in Coaching Award.
Seidl also coached the 2012-13 PeeWee team to a 33-1-2 record.
Seidl becomes the 15th Macho Award winner.
