Jack Pelzel

Jack Jerome Pelzel of Buckeye, AZ, formerly of Sleepy Eye, MN, died January 20, 2024, at the age of 67. He was born in Sleepy Eye on August 10, 1956 to Jerome and Barbara Pelzel. He graduated from Sleepy Eye St.Mary’s High School in 1974 and then attended MN School of Business,where he graduated in 1976. He then went on to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country for 18 years, retiring from duty in 1994. His military service included deployments to Osan,Korea and active duty during Desert Storm in Kuwait. Jack’s dedication and commitment to his country earned him the respect and gratitude of those he served alongside. Following his honorable military career, Jack transitioned into civilian life and found success in his professional endeavors. Until 2021, he served as the Configuration Manager at PACO for the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Light Rail. His meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the projects he undertook.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jack was a devoted Minnesota sports fan, always cheering for the Vikings or Twins. Jack also enjoyed years of playing sports until his health decided otherwise.Whether it was softball,where he was an amazing pitcher, golf or bowling, Jack’s love for sports provided a source of joy and camaraderie throughout his life.

Jack is survived by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Barbara Pelzel, and his brother, Jeff Pelzel. He is survived by his siblings: Jane (Rick) Mages, Judy (Tom) Doyle, Joyce (Tony) Schwichtenberg, Jim (Mary) Pelzel, Joel Pelzel, and his eight nieces (Melissa,Melanie,Christine, Brianna, Sarah, Miranda, Tiffany, Chelsey) and 3 nephews (Jory, Aaron, Robert), as well as many friends and colleagues who will cherish the memories they shared with him.

A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at a later date.
