The Sleepy Eye boys golf team will be making a return trip to the State High School Golf Tournament after winning their second consecutive Section 2A title at North Links in Mankato Thursday.
Senior Mitch Laffen will make his third straight trip to the elite tournament. He went as an individual in 2009. Had the team not qualified, Laffen would have advanced again as he tied for second overall with an 18-hole scored of 80 (44-36).
Aaron Zuhlsdorf was one stroke off Laffen’s pace with an 81, Tyler Netzke and Tyler Hadley each shot 84s.
“Winning back to back Section 2A titles is a great accomplishment,” said coach Kaleb Walter. “When the season started we had four goals. Win the Conference Title, Win the Sub-Section, Win the Section and Win the State Championship.”
” We have accomplished the first 3 of these goals and hopefully we can accomplish the 4th! continued Walter.
St. Mary’s had three golfers competing. Jr. Mikail Sellner missed making a return to state by one stroke. He carded an 86 (44-26). Kansas Adams had an 87 and C.J. Windschitl a 90.
