GILBERT JOHN MARSO Gilbert John Marso, 89, died Wednesday, January 1, 2025, with his family by his side. Gib was born in Taunton on March 14, 1935, the oldest of five children. As a child his family moved to Sleepy Eye and he graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Sleepy Eye in 1953. He married Marjorie Anne Yetzer on November 16, 1963, and they lived in rural Sleepy Eye until the family moved to rural Eagle Bend in 1977. He was a farmer his entire life, until he retired in 2003, and moved to Parkers Prairie. He served on the board of directors of the Pro-Ag Farmers’ Cooperative for a number of years. He also worked for USDA, Crop Insurance Division, as a fieldman, reviewer, and adjuster for 22 years and then as an adjuster for several private insurance companies for many years after that. Gib was an active member of St. William’s Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie since 1977 and a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Council, since 1953. He served on St. William’s Parish Council, finance committee and as a trustee throughout the years. In his retirement, he counted money from the collection and locked and unlocked the church each day. A farmer for life, he continued to maintain the yard in town, “putz” in the garage, and help on his sons’ farms until the last summer of his life. He enjoyed telling stories, talking about farming and the weather, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Gib is preceded in death by his wife Marge; his parents Mathias (Math) and Mabel (Revier) Marso; and his sisters Sylvia (John) Steffl, Ruth (Jerome) Steffl, and Barbara Marso. He is survived by his sister Ronny (Duke) Schroeder; his children Joan Marso, David (Krys) Marso, Dennis Marso, and Beth Marso; his grandchildren Adam, Dan, Emily, and Allison; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at St. William’s Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie. Visitation was held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial was at St. William’s Cemetery. The funeral mass was also livestreamed on the funeral home website. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of arrangements for Gib.
