FFA Qualifies More for State

Sleepy Eye FFA members competed at Tracy, Minnesota for the Region VI Companion Animals and Fish & Wildlife Career Development Events (CDE’s) on Thursday, February 13th.

Seven members competed in the Companion Animal CDE including: Camryn Maher (14th place individual), Anna Johnson, Natalie Fulmer, Kylie Fischer, Alexis Hoffman, Caleb Oscarson, and Anders Coulson. The team placed 6th out of 15 teams and advanced to state competition in April.

The Companion Animal team members were tested on their knowledge of common pets, pet health, vet science terms & skills, and animal anatomy. An identification of different species including: dogs, cats, birds, fish, parasites, rabbits, and other animals kept as pets is also a large part of the contest.

The Fish & Wildlife competitors included: Noah Christensen (5th place individual), Jacob Fulmer, Kyle Nelson, Noah Rossbach, Robert Romberg, Rylan Trebesch, Eli Christensen, Ethan Schwartz, Santi Martinez, and Reid Romberg. Noah was the top scorer on the team and advanced to state as an individual placing 5th out of 86 individuals.

The Fish & Wildlife contest consists of three parts: identification (mammals, fish, birds, insects, reptiles/amphibians), a knowledge test, and a current events activity on Biological Indicators in Habitat Monitoring. The team placed 7th out of 19 teams.
