Edith Arline Swenson died Sunday, June 9, at Our House hospice in Slayton, Minnesota, with family by her side – two days after celebrating her 94th birthday with family. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Walnut Grove. Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Edith was born June 7, 1930, in Monroe Township, Lyon County, Minnesota to Lawrence and Margaret (Smiley) Moyars. She grew up in rural Amiret and Milroy where her parents farmed. On December 21, 1947, she married Donald Swenson, Sr. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Together they farmed in Springdale Township until 1970 when they moved into Walnut Grove. Over the years, Edith waitressed at many of the restaurants in Walnut Grove. She enjoyed socializing and playing bingo. In her later years, she partook in bingo and many of the senior citizen activities in Walnut Grove. In 2017, she moved to Country View Assisted Living in Walnut Grove where she was able to continue her social activities.
Edith is survived by sons: Donald Jr. (Joan) of Sleepy Eye, Dennis (Trish) of Madelia, Doug (JoAnn) of Sioux Falls, and daughter Deb (Dale) Pacholl of Walnut Grove; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Duane, her parents, sisters Grace Newton, Zola Sammons, and brother Larry.
