EDA September Meeting Summary

by Kurk Kramer, EDA Directory

The September EDA Board Meeting was called to order at 12:05pm on September 26. I explained the financial reports from the Revolving Loan Fund, Business Assistance Loan Fund, and summary reports of all 2023, and 2014-YTD EDA program disbursements.

Old business included the following: The EDA Board received an update from the Little Sprouts Learning Center Board and decided to table to the October meeting any further discussion on a possible new location for the center sometime in the future. Discussions on vacant and inactive buildings were discussed again this month.  Some of the EDA Board members took a “walk-through” in a couple of the buildings the day before the meeting. There was discussion on the two buildings they viewed, but the Board is going to wait until the October meeting to make a decision due to more information being needed on the properties, and to also have full board attendance at that meeting.

New business in September: The Board reviewed a sign and awning application submitted by “Classic Trends Salon”, which is located at 101 Main Street East.  The application was approved, and the EDA will offer financial assistance for the rehab work on the existing awning in the amount of $509.21. We welcome this new business to our community! Bob Elston presented the 2024 EDA Budget Numbers to the Board.  I presented a preliminary estimate from the Sleepy Eye Arena on their tentative plan to add a new entry to the existing building. The Arena will be asking for EDA financial assistance as they have done numerous times in the past. No action was taken as this was just an introduction for the Board to consider on this possible project.  The Board addressed some questions from a new business owner on the Commercial Lease Agreement for the office spaces in the Community Center.  This information was then given to the business owner for consideration. The possible start date on that lease is tentatively scheduled for November 1.
