Delores Haas

Delores H. Haas, age 100, of Sleepy Eye, peacefully passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at Lake Villa Maria in Sleepy Eye.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Carol (Charles) Guggisberg of New Ulm; grandchildren, Loren, Dan, Sandy (Jef) Behnken, Al (Michelle) and Cathy (Jorge Villanueva); great-grandchildren, Luke Guggisberg, Tyler Guggisberg (Briana Pietsch), Jenna Behnken (Jonah Resnick) and Nicholas Behnken.

Delores Helen Wieland was born on September 23, 1922, in New Ulm to William & Mary (Macho) Wieland.  After attending school in New Ulm, she worked at the Dakotah Hotel and Wearwell Garment Company.  On September 21, 1942 she married Walter (Pat) Haas and they resided on their family farm in Sigel Township.  Through her many years on the farm, she enjoyed feeding the birds, hunting for mushrooms, hosting barn dances and helping anyone she found in need.  Known as the “Lace Lady”, she learned to make Klöppel lace at age 7 from her grandmother and went on to teach 213 others.  She made friends wherever she went and will be missed for her quick wit and generous hugs.  Whenever she was asked how she feels she’d smile and say, “With my fingers!”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter (Pat); her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and great-granddaughter, Katlynn Behnken.

The family would like to thank all the nurses, caregivers, family and friends who dedicated themselves to caring for and bringing comfort to her, she truly appreciated and loved all of you.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Private burial will be at a later date in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to MRCI Bargains in New Ulm, Divine Providence Nursing Home in Sleepy Eye, the American Cancer Society or the donor’s choice.
