Defensive Driving classes continue to be offered in Sleepy Eye with the next class on Tuesday, April 15, 5 p.m. The course is open to anyone 55 and older who has not had the class before as well as those who need to renew their certificate every three years. Space is available in the April class.
The Minnesota Safety Council provides the instructor as well as the certificates. The course teaches preventive measures to use when driving that saves lives. Upon completion of the course, a person qualifies for a ten percent discount on vehicle insurance premium for three years.
Motorcycle Safety Training is scheduled for the last weekend of April in Sleepy Eye. Nine additional sessions are scheduled throughout the summer. Information and registration can be found at RideSafeRideSmart.com
Preschool open house has been planned for Thursday, April 10, 4:30-6 p.m. Parents with children who will be 3 or 4 by September 1 are invited to attend to get updates on the 2025-2026 plans for Discovery Time and Voluntary PreK. Discovery Time is for three year olds and meets 78 days during the year. Voluntary PreK is for four year olds and they meet 140 days for the year.
An additional ECFE activity is planned for Friday, April 11, 6-7:30 p.m. in the Sleepy Eye School cafeteria. It is Daddy and Me night! Dads, grandfathers, uncles or big brothers can come and do projects with the preschool boy or girl. It is helpful to have signups in order to plan for supplies.
Preschool story time continues at the Dyckman Library at 10 a.m. on Thursdays.
The next outing will be the Sidekick theatre show “Perfect Wedding” on Wednesday May 7. It includes noon lunch, the show and transportation. Registration is needed by April 21.
The Sidekick Theatre specializes in comedy and is located in Bloomington.
The community ed advisory board will be meeting on Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m. in the Community Education office. Main focus will be preparing a budget for 2025-2026 as well as finalizing the summer program of activities.
The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School. School day office hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., most weekdays.
