Community Education Update 2/11

Over 120 individuals attended the parent-child dances that were held on two Sunday afternoons at the Sleepy Eye Event Center. It included children three years to third grade, a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle. Local sponsors help defray some of the costs involved in sponsored this event by the ECFE program.

Grandparents Day in ECFE has been very popular over the years and will be held on Saturday, February 15, 9-10:30 a.m. in Room 320. Sign up early so adequate supplies will be available. The morning is planned like an ECFE class with grandparent-child time, circle time and then separating for a grandparent discussion and continued playtime for the children.

The next family activity will be on Saturday, February 22 for an open gym in the Sleepy Eye Elementary School. Large muscle activities are planned. Time is 3:30-5 p.m.

The ECFE Advisory Council will be working at the concession stand for the basketball game on February 13. The Council has also scheduled the next meeting for Wednesday, February 19, 4 p.m.

Quilters will gather on Saturday, February 22 for an all-day class. All skill levels are invited to participate. Each participant brings their own supplies, sewing machines and an item to share at the potluck noon meal.

The first defensive driving course for 2025 will be on Thursday, March 20, 1 p.m. Everyone takes the 4-hour class although the 8-hour class is available online. The reason the ruling was changed is that most drivers turning 55 had driver education instruction as high school students.

The tickets for “Grease” at the Chanhassen on Wednesday, April 2 are almost gone. The other popular outing is “Perfect Wedding” at the Sidekick Theatre on Wednesday, May 7. Other outings that are offered include the Minnesota State Capitol and History Museum on Thursday, March 13, Eagle Watch at Wabasha on Thursday, April 10 and the Jason Show on Wednesday, May 28. Call for more information and if you need a copy of the latest brochure, they can be picked up at the Dyckman Library or Sleepy Eye Chamber of Commerce or request a copy sent to you.

Students at Sleepy Eye School will have Friday, February 14 off as the staff will have an in-service day. There is no school for any of the Sleepy Eye students on Monday, February 17 due to President’s Day.

The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School.  School day office hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., most weekdays.
