Community Education Update 1/20
The winter-spring Community Education brochure has been posted on the school website, emailed or mailed to those that have signed up and posted on a number of websites. Hard copies are available in this office as well as the Dyckman Library. Be sure to request a copy. The ECFE newsletter was also mailed to all families on the school census. If you did not get a copy, we may not have your child on the census list. Let this office know if you are new to the district or if your child was not born in Brown County or was adopted.
The staff for Early Childhood Screening will be ready to meet preschoolers three and a half and older who have not done this important event. Public schools require screening within sixty days after a preschooler begins classes in the fall and earlier if they start kindergarten without having done it. The private schools also request this baseline report as well.
An online signup is open for families to register for Early Childhood Screening which will be held at the Sleepy Eye Elementary School on Thursday, February 6. Appointments can also be made by calling this office. Please note the change of location. Complete details will be provided to those who have signed up the week prior.
The procedure takes a little over an hour to complete as there are things for the child to do and visits for the parent with the school nurse and family facilitator. A questionnaire will be provided to those who have signed up that needs to be filled out and brought to the appointment. Another item needed is a copy of the child’s immunizations which is usually available on line for the parent to retrieve.
The parent child dances are soon here. Mothers and sons will be coming to the Sleepy Eye Event Center on Sunday, January 26.1-2:30 p.m. Children three years old to third grade are included in this activity hosted by the Sleepy Eye ECFE program. Fathers and daughters come on Sunday, February 9. In case a parent is not available, grandparents, aunt or uncles, big brothers or sisters can participate. Tickets can be reserved by calling 507-794-7873.
This has been great parent-child activity with pictures taken, snacks provided, music and dancing, plus door prizes. Sign up early so space can be set up and supplies available for everyone. Tickets are always available at the door as well.
Quilters will have the first event of 2025 on Saturday, January 25. All skill levels are invited to participate as each person brings their own materials to work on. A lot is accomplished from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. although everyone does not stay the whole day. A noon potluck lunch is shared.
The first defensive driving class for 2025 will be on Thursday, March 20 at 1 p.m. This is for those who need to renew their certificate as well as first time attendees.
The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School. School day office hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., most weekdays.
