Community Educatino Update 8/21

A fall schedule of events offered through Sleepy Eye Community Education has been finalized and posted on the Sleepy Eye School website under Community Education. The ECFE newsletter will be available in the next couple of weeks. This newsletter is mailed to all families with preschoolers who are on the current census list. It will also be posted on the school website.

VIP Senior Citizen Athletic Passes are again available. This complimentary pass is for senior citizens 60+ years who reside in the Sleepy Eye School District. VIPO passes allow the bearer free entry to all regularly scheduled Sleepy Eye Public School home athletic events and Sleepy Eye United football games. The pass is not valid for any tournament or post season games. Passes are good year to year so there is no need to get a new one each year.

The passes are available in the Sleepy Eye Community Education office. The can be reserved by phone and picked up at a home event or mailed out. Plan ahead as the first home volleyball game is on Thursday, August 22 and the first home united football game is on Thursday, August 29 at the St. Mary’s field.

The first outing for fall is to the Minnesota State Fair on Monday, August 26. It is senior citizen and kid’s day with discounted entry fees. The motorcoach will be stopping in Sleepy Eye at 7 a.m. for passengers and leave the fair at 6:45 p.m. Space is still available.

There has been a change made in the Defensive Driver classes. Effective July 1, 2024, the new rule states that the course must be a total of at least 4 hours. This means that a first-time participant can take a 4-hour program as their initial training – the 8-hour program will no longer be a requirement. The 8-hour class will not be offered with a live instructor but if you would like to take the 8-hour program it will be available online.

The first offering will be on Monday, September 23, 1 p.m. and a second one on Monday, October 14 at 5 p.m. A minimum of 12 is needed for the class to be held.

The next motorcycle safety class will be August 24-25 on the Sleepy Eye School parking lot. Sign-up by visiting the website http://ridesaferidesmart.com

Preschools begin on Monday, August 26. Voluntary Pre-K meets Monday through Friday most weeks and Discovery Time meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There are both morning and afternoon sessions.

The Community Education office is located in Room 109 of the Sleepy Eye High School.  School year office hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If the office is unattended, you can call and leave a message on voice mail, 507-794-7873, and we will get back to you with more information.
