Coach Comment:
I was very proud of the way all of our girls competed today!
First off, our doubles team of Dani Junker and Chloe Okerman, both Freshman, fought hard against a top seed out of Blue Earth. These two should hopefully be back in the future so this was a great learning experience for them.
Our doubles team of Selene Krohnfeldt (9th) and Jillian Mays (12th), played some of the best tennis I’ve seen out of them but didn’t manage to knock off two great players out of Fairmont. Congratulations to Jillian Mays on a fantastic career with the River Valley Wildcats. We will miss her!
Brissa Hernandez (12th) received the #5 seed and took care of business in the first round. She received a tough draw in the second round and played a great player out of Maple River, eventually losing in two sets. Brissa will forever be remembered as one of the most talented and decorated players in River Valley tennis history.
Taylor Berkner (11th) received the #2 seed and a first round bye before defeating Lily DeBlieck out of Redwood in the second round. Taylor’s season continues on Wednesday as she will play in the Final Four with an opportunity to go to State.
Day Two
Taylor Berkner wins her first matchup 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in an exciting three-set battle against Elizabeth Shores of Saint James.

Coach Comment:
It was a competitive matchup against Sibley East to end our regular season play. Taylor and Brissa had some convincing wins at 1st and 2nd singles but we struggled in other positions. We were without a portion of our normal varsity lineup but I’d like to give a shoutout to Reagan Moody and Tori Matter for stepping into a tough spot and performing well as a 3rd Doubles team that rarely played together this year.
The First Round of the team section tournament was Monday, 9/30. We received the #6 seed and we traveled to face the #3 Blue Earth team.

-
No. 3: Mckinley Hanson/Katelyn Storbeck (Blue Earth) def. Delaney Rex/Morgan Arsndorf (RV) 6-1, 6-0
Coach Comment:
It was a good matchup against a tough Blue Earth team on their home courts. Taylor and Brissa got us two solid victories, including a thrilling tiebreaker between Taylor and Grace Hanson at 1st singles. However, we were unable to get points elsewhere in the lineup against some very good 3rd and 4th singles players and a stacked doubles lineup. I want to congratulate Coach Spencer Monson from Blue Earth on the victory! It was a great team season for our squad. In the offseason and throughout next year we will continue to focus on building up our younger and more inexperienced players. We are super excited to have a very solid foundation to work with following this season. In the past, we had worried about simply having the numbers to field a competitive team but with 23 this year and only graduating 2 seniors, that gives us a positive outlook for the program’s future.
