TYPE OF INCIDENT: A 2003 Pontiac Grand AM, driven by Kansas Adams, 19, of Sleepy Eye lost control on icy roads while traveling southbound and entering a curve on Hwy. 14 just west of Sleepy Eye (near the Golf Course.) The vehicle entered the east bound lane and was broadsided by a 1999 Dodge Ram Truck driven by Douglas Wiborg, 43, of New Ulm

UPDATES: According to one news source, Preliminary reports indicate back seat passengers in Grand AM were not wearing seat belts. Driver and passengers in Ram Truck were wearing seatbelts.
Donald Richert, 77, died of injuries received in a farm accident.
According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, it received a 911 call shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday to Richert’s residence in Prairieview township.
They found Richert had been working on a skidloader near a burn pit on the farm. Richert had apparently gotten off the skidloader to move something into the pit, when the skidloader moved forward, pinning his left leg and trapping Richert in the burn pit, where he received extensive burns to the majority of his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office, Sleepy Eye Ambulance Service, State Patrol and Sleepy Eye Police responded to the scene. The responders were also assisted at the scene by two Clements volunteer firefighters who had been working in the area and had discovered the incident.
Former Sleepy Eye Police Chief David Seivert was found dead in his home Saturday Nov. 5. Cause of death was not available.
Seivert worked for the SE Police Department from February 2000 until September 2007. He served as Chief of Police from 2005 until 2007 at which time he was dismissed from his position after personal issues interefered with his ability to do his job. Legal action were later brought against the City of Sleepy Eye by Seivert. The case was resolved with an undisclosed cash settlement in 2009.
