Joel Youngman, the grandson of the boy peeking from behind Bob Muesel in the famous Babe Ruth visit to Sleepy Eye photo taken in 1922, will be making a trip to Sleepy Eye. Friday August 26th, Joel will help the community dedicate the new Babe Ruth Visit signage which was added to the local baseball park this summer.
The elderly Youngman is still alive living in Virginia, MN. He is now 105 years-old but no longer travels.
Joel will be touring Sleepy Eye Friday afternoon before heading to the Sleepy Eye BaseBall Park for the dedication at 4:30 p.m. The community is invited to attend the ceremony.
This year’s annual Sleepy Eye ornament will feature the Babe Ruth visit.
The “boy” (Len Youngman) was featured in recent KARE 11 and KEYC-TV stories as well as a Weeds column by Randy Krzmarzick.
