Ten Sleepy Eye FFA members attended the State Leadership Conference at St. Cloud State University on Monday, December 9, 2024.  This conference featured several events including the following: Leadership Development Events (LDE’s), H2O Conference, POWER, and career exploration activities.

Taylor Berkner earned 1st place in the Employment Skills competition out of 16 contestants and advanced to National Competition. This LDE simulates real-world activities used by employers and tests students’ ability to perform effectively throughout the employment process. Students submit a cover letter and resume; complete an application; and participate in face–to–face interviews. They complete the process by writing a follow up thank you letter.

Lily Kallevig competed in the Prepared Public Speaking Competition and placed 1st out of 18 participants, advancing to nationals. Student contestants write and deliver a six to eight minute speech related to agriculture. Speakers are judged on content and composition, delivery of the speech, and their ability to answer questions from the judges.

Camryn Maher competed in the FFA Creed Competition. She placed 2nd out of 24 contestants.  In this contest, members are judged for their ability to present the five paragraphs of the National FFA Creed from memory and answer questions related to it.

Five members, including Kamille Capacia, Maddy Goldschmidt, Paola Gonzalez, Breanna Lopez, and Ava Sellner attended the H2O Conference.  H20 is a one-day conference taking students through creating ripples of leadership in their personal lives. Attendees learn how to develop action plans for their own lives from every angle in order to create an influence.

Lucia Martinez Parades attended the POWER (Providing Officers with Essential Resources) Conference. As a Region VI FFA Officer, Lucia participated in the training while at the State Leadership Event. Ms. Emmett, Sleepy Eye FFA Advisor, prepared the students and chaperoned the trip.

Good luck to Taylor and Lily as they will compete at the National LDE Competition in October of 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
