Patrick A. Helget, 77 of Belgrade formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, July 27, 2023 at his home in Belgrade after a four-year battle with ALS. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. followed by visitation. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade. www.hafh.org
Patrick Alvin Helget was born August 3, 1945 in Sleepy Eye the son of Victor and Caroline (Schiller) Helget. He grew up in Sleepy Eye and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. On August 13, 1963, Pat was united in marriage to Elaine Treml. This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. They made their home in Sleepy Eye where he drove for Havemeier Trucking hauling milk for several years before eventually owning and operating his own route. He retired after 50 years. On September 17, 2016, Pat was united in marriage to Sherry Waller at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. They made their home in Belgrade where they enjoyed retirement and he hauled milk part-time.
Pat enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, spending time at the lake, spoiling his beloved puppies Ava and Alli and spending time with family and friends.
Pat is survived by his wife, Sherry; children, Chris (John) Bayerl of Lester Prairie, Steve (Susan) Helget of Norwood Young America, Dan Helget of Dassel, Brooks (Kathy) Helget of Cokato and Kathryn (Bobby) Anglin of Maple Lake; five grandchildren, Travis (Elizabeth), Gehrig, Gabe, Cole and Caleb; Sherry’s children, Darren (Teresa) Waller and Kim (Peter) Wood; Sherry’s grandchildren, Austin, Kacie (Braden) Jared (Carlee), Aaron, Brooke (Brady), Ben (Kaitlynn) and Ryley; and siblings, LaVonne (Peter) Johansen, Virgil Helget, Jane (Steve) Eckstein, Curt Helget, Audrey (Neal) Jacobson, Victor Jr (Sandy) Helget and David (Tammy) Helget. He was preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Elaine.
