Richard “Rich” Horman, age 68, of Rogers, MN passed away on January 14, 2025. He passed peacefully surrounded by his wife, family, and his beloved dog, Rio.
Rich was born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota on September 27, 1956 to Phyllis (Moen) and Lincoln Horman. Rich and his siblings, Audrey and Ron, were raised by Phyllis (Moen, Horman) and Lester Larsen following Lincoln’s death in 1961.
He enjoyed his high school years at Sleepy Eye participating in basketball, football, band, and countless pranks with friends. It sounds like the graduating class of 1975 enjoyed a wild ride! After high school Rich attended Jackson Technical College, becoming a lineman. Rich began his career working for Okay Construction in Lakeville, soon becoming the crew foreman. In 1987, he went to work for Wright-Hennepin Electric as a lineman and expanded to Operations Manager. Rich and his co-workers worked countless hours covering storms to restore power to thousands of homes. The long hours took a toll on the guys, but meeting the challenges also appeared to energize them. Rich’s #1 concern was always for the welfare of the crews. At the time of Rich’s retirement in 2021, he continued to embrace any opportunity to mentor other linemen and made lasting friendships.
Rich loved his work. When out for a drive, Rich would often point out power lines throughout the state that he helped build, along with the year they were built. While some of you may think this is fascinating, some of us rolled our eyes!
Rich also volunteered to help raise funds for children and adults receiving treatment at the Hennepin Burn Center and Acute Burn Clinic.
Rich & Sue married in 1992 sharing a lifetime of love and companionship. A joy Rich and Sue treasured was spending time with their family; Megan, Luke, Emmerson and Patrick.
Rich also enjoyed various activities over the years. Rich loved NASCAR races in Michigan. He also worked as a pitman for his brother when they fueled their passion for the sport by building their own car to race on local dirt tracks. Another hobby was snagging a fish or two in any of Minnesota’s 10,000+ lakes with trips to the Northwest Angle being his favorite. In recent years, playing golf was his passion.
Rich enjoyed a slow, lingering Minnesota good-bye to enjoy a few more minutes with family and friends. His love and energy will continue in so many of the friends, colleagues and family that he impacted.
Rich is survived by his wife, Sue (Miller); daughter, Megan (Luke) Breyer; grandchildren, Emmerson and Patrick, Rio (dog), siblings, Audrey Horman and Ronald (Laura) Horman; niece and nephews, Nick (Courtney), Samantha (Ryan Steffl), and Cody (Jordan O’Malley) and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father.
