Traffic detoured to county roads

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 14 west of New Ulm can expect a short detour beginning July 16 as crews construct a roundabout at Highway 14 and Palmar Avenue (new Menards entrance).

The detour for the construction of the single-lane roundabout includes Brown County Road 12 and Brown County Road 29. Construction is expected to be complete in mid-August.

The city of New Ulm is the lead on the project after receiving a permit from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

MnDOT has been installing roundabouts at new or remodeled intersections to lower the incidence of crashes. Roundabouts can handle high levels of traffic with less delay than most stop signs or signals. The tight curves slow traffic so entering and exiting is easier and more efficient.
