Father-and-son-team work together to complete planting
SLEEPY EYE, Minn. – The date was May 14, and the local cooperative was delivering 6 tons of dry fertilizer to Richard and John Wurtzberger.
The dry fertilizer includes ammonium sulfate, potash and 18-46-0, which is mainly di-ammonium phosphate. The fertilizer is put on at a rate of 200 pounds per acre.
It is augered to tubs that run along the front of the planter.
“The fertilizer is available – especially if you have the alkali soils,” said Richard. “You get into the calcium and that ties up the fertilizer – so when you’ve got it in the row, it’s right there.”
