Coaches and Activity Directors
On August 1st, 2012 a great once in a life time opportunity is coming to Brown County. Harold Slemmer, the
Executive Director of the Arizona Interscholastic Association will be presenting “Pursue Victory With Honor”, a
one day sportsmanship program.
The Brown County Underage Substance Abuse Coalition (USAC) is proud to sponsor this sportsmanship
opportunity for those in the Brown County school districts. This one day program will show how easy it is to
weave character lessons and teachable moments into team meetings and practices.
In 2008, USAC received a $625,000 grant to work on prevention education of alcohol, tobacco and other drug
use among our youth. In 2011 USAC began working with the New Ulm School District to promote Character
Counts!, a character building program. As part of this effort we want to expand our efforts to other schools and
through sports and extra-curricular activities.
With sports and other activities being an important part of our youth’s lives, we felt this would be a great
program to bring to the schools. Of course there is a cost; USAC is picking up the $5000 tab associated with the
program. We ask you pay $15 for the food (which our grant does not allow us to cover). Perhaps you are able to
be reimbursed through your staff development funds, through your sports or activity budget or fund it on your
own. We hope the cost does not deter someone from attending.
Please consider attending this workshop; coaches and program directors are some of the most influential people
in the lives of youth. Whether you know it or not, you influence them. This workshop will enhance the message
you going to share with them about sportsmanship, drug and alcohol use, character and leadership.
