One name has stuckout this summer so far as the Sleepy Eye FFA has competed in the crop show. Senior Josie Fischer is once again the high point overall individual exhibitor at theMinnesota State Fair. Though it is her third year showing crops, she stillworks twice as hard to reach a perfect crop sample. According to Fischer,attention to detail is the key. “I touch every single grain that goes into asample so they look very uniform” said Fischer. In her case, hard work reallydid pay off as she earned approximately two-hundred and eighty dollars in prizemoney this summer from the county and state fair combined. Overall, herexperiences with preparing crop samples have taught her a valuable lesson, “Ifyou take the time and effort to perfect something, it will pay off in the end”commented Fischer. Other winners from the Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter were DesiraeRose (6th place individual), Jamie Fischer (8th placeindividual), Teri LaCourse (Highest Point Overall First Year Exhibitor), ChrisSeifert (champion barley), Jenifer Kotten (champion oats), Josie Fischer(Champion Miscellaneous-popcorn) and Abby Walter (champion wheat). There were atotal of 1179 samples in the crop show, 29 chapters exhibited, 403 membersexhibited, and Sleepy Eye FFA was the high point FFA Chapter in the state.Sleepy Eye had a total of 91 exhibitors and 418 crop samples.
